My whole life I wondered what I would be good at. I happen to have been born into a very talented family. My mother could play a mean saxophone in high school. My Aunt Maxine could crochet the cutest hat and scarf sets.
Fast-forward twenty-five years;and I'm still searching. I did find out I was awfully good at getting pregnant. And having two children three years into your marriage proves that! I love being a mother and wouldn't trade it for anything in the world, but I wanted to find something that would help put food on the table and allow me to stay home and raise the little whippersnappers. In the early 1990's my sister, Lori, and I happened to be buying candles wholesale from a company.
We loved the candles, but hated the customer service, so we decided to try to make our own. At that point, I went into a full-fledged search of the ultimate candlemaking techniques. Unfortunately, (or should I say fortunately) candlemakers happen to be more secretive than the pentagon. Then came my big break. One day while shopping for candles, my daughter Kylee happened to have a poopy diaper. I asked the owner of the shop if I could use the restroom to change it. Call me an optimist, but that diaper had a silver lining! The restroom happened to be smack dab in the middle of their candle factory. Since this was probably the 5,000th diaper I had changed in the past two years, I was able to do it completely by feel with my eyes focused on what was going on around me! It was enough to inspire me;I had learned enough to move forward.
This is where faith comes in. You see, I am absolutely convinced that God never gives it to you all at once. That would be far too easy and I wouldn't appreciate it the way I do now. It was two long years before we perfected our recipe. And since we weren't influenced by centuries of how its done, I can honestly say we make the most unique votive candle out there! And yes, we have become just as secretive as the rest of the candlemakers out there but with good reason. OURS ARE THE BEST! Our candles are made with the finest wax available, blended with top quality oils, and poured around a cardboard cored wick. We have the best scent throw going and some of the most unique scents around. Our candles burn clean and last between 15-18 hours each. Two or three will fill your home with fragrance. Each of our candles are hand poured with love and never smell industrial or look mass produced (because they aren't). The name 5B&Co Candlemakers represents the five children my sister and I share between us. We started out in 1993 as Three Blessings, went on to Four Blessings and stopped with Five Blessings Candleworks. When I franchised in 2003, I trademarked our name as 5B&Co Candlemakers. I do plan on keeping this name for awhile, after pouring all those candles...I'm just too tired to add any more blessings! So here's my philosophy, when you least expect it, it all comes together.
